With the rise of e-commerce, international express delivery services are expanding rapidly, offering a diverse range of options for customers. No longer do customers need to visit the post office; now, they can simply click a button to send and receive packages from abroad.
Today, people increasingly purchase and receive goods from overseas through online shopping platforms. This trend has led to the establishment of numerous express delivery companies. Customers can now choose from a variety of services, compare them, and select the best option for their shipments.
“International express delivery companies are becoming more numerous and affordable, such as DHL, TNT, Viettel Post, and VNPost. Delivery times are also shorter,” shared Ms. Nguyễn Kiều, a Vietnamese resident in South Korea who sells Korean products to Vietnamese customers. She noted that previously, she had to ship goods via the postal service or air freight, but now she has many more options.
Browsing through express delivery service websites, one can see a wide range of services categorized by major markets such as Russia, Japan, the USA, and Australia.
For instance, DHL Express recently launched an on-demand delivery service, making international online shopping more convenient. This service, available in over 45 languages across 100 countries, allows senders to choose the appropriate shipping method. DHL then proactively sends messages or emails to confirm and update the shipment status. This new service is particularly suitable for international e-commerce deliveries, with most packages sent to residential addresses.
A representative from DHL stated, “We have observed that the number of orders transported within the e-commerce sector has increased from 10% in 2013 to over 20% in 2016 of DHL Express’s total international orders. This growth is driven by the increasing demand for premium products from foreign markets and retailers’ desire to enter and expand into new markets.”
Mr. Tuấn Anh from Hai Bà Trưng, Hanoi, a frequent recipient of Japanese goods through international express services, mentioned that packages are delivered directly to his home. During the shipping process, customers can track their packages and check if they have cleared customs.
Express delivery services are becoming more accessible, meeting customer needs more effectively. Customers can use these services on any device, such as phones, computers, or tablets. Recipients can schedule and arrange delivery times at the nearest service counter or their home address, and even request the carrier to hold the package if they are on vacation.
Express delivery is a crucial component of the logistics sector. Historically, Vietnam’s logistics industry has been considered underdeveloped and unprofessional due to fragmented and small-scale operations. However, with the participation of foreign enterprises, express delivery services are becoming more professional, offering more choices for customers. According to regulatory agencies, this service will continue to grow significantly due to the vast potential.
This is a positive sign for Vietnamese trade in the context of robust international economic exchanges and increasing demand for goods transportation. The growing demand for foreign goods also necessitates professional services.
